A Brief Profile
Support With Working Solution (SWWS) was established in 1991. It was registered with the social welfare Department, NWFP. Reproductive health of women was the starting point. Cultural barriers bowed to zeal and determination of our ‘all female’ field teams. As of December 2008, SWWS has provided reproductive health services to 115000 women in 66 villages out of five districts. In 1997 Women Micro Enterprise Development (WMED) became our second area of intervention. In our WMED intervention, we support poor women in increasing their incomes through training and linkages facilitation. Education was the third area of intervention as SWWS team felt it necessary to empower poor. Besides striving to educate rural women, SWWS is operating 12 schools for Urban Working and Indigent Children in Mardan City. While on other hand SWWS worked for 100% literacy and established 86 communities based schools and hired 120 feeder teachers in different district of NWFP. Micro-credit component of the SWWS Programme provides loans to poor women entrepreneurs. SWWS facilitates group formation and builds capacities of the borrowers as well as links them with mainstream financial institutions, and also provide small loan under its own credit line. Women and poor were mobilized to open bank accounts. As of December 2008, more than 5769 women and poor have started savings in their accounts in different banks and on the basis of these credit groups, total Rs.43755297.00 to 4473 loanees were disbursed as micro credit. Total four micro credit products were introduced including small loan for entrepreneur, livestock, micro leasing and Murabeha. SWWS has demonstrated sustainability of its Programme during 16 years of its existence. It has never happened that an activity stopped after termination of a project. The reason probably is that we have our own target group-the women of the area. As far as management of the organization is concerned, a General body of over 50 members (including women and men) elects the 07 members executive committee. The executive committee elects a 5 members Management committee, which must have at least one woman on board. Research is the integral part of all programmes. SWWS conducted research studies including base line/situation analysis for different organizations, and regularly review the contraceptive prevalence rate in specific area and initiated pilot projects for replication in sector of health, education and micro credit and micro leasing etc. SWWS also conducted household survey on repatriation of Afghan refugees in 56 camps of NWFP and FATA with UNHCR and also prepared profile of Afghan refugees throughout Pakistan. SWWS conducted research on honour killing its causes and affect. SWWS completed reaserch study on Public private partnership for Reproductive health. After earthquake SWWS response including medical camps in Batagram, Mansehra and installation of prefabricated houses, community youth friendly centers and clinics for service providers in Muzaffarabad, Rawlakot, Bagh, Mansehra, Abottabad and Balakot. Side by side Psychosocial and grief counseling were continued through group meetings, and camps in the area. Emotional freedom techniques were introduced and helped victim families special focus were on women adolescents and children. We are indebted to our partners who have supported us to the hilt in bringing in socio-economic development for the poor women. More than that we enjoy confidence of the communities, who have stood with us through thick and thin and granted us an unprecedented acceptability. “The SWWS‘s sustainability index is 70 %… The second line of leadership is well developed … The variation in the data is very low. This indicates absolute clarity and strong ownership of the organization’s vision by its members.” SWWS also received best performance award from President of Pakistan on Health Services in 2002. SWWS Also received best performance award from Government of NWFP on human rights in 2002. Similarly received regional award on entrepreneurship and also received best national award on best practitioner from city group during 2006, 2007 and 2008 consecutively. In 2008 Ms. Sadia lead trainer of SWWS also received performance award from Ministry of Population welfare Government of Pakistan by Prime Minster of Pakistan.
